eLiga Portugal Returns With a Renewed Format

Returning for another year, eLiga Portugal 2024 is finally here with a new competitive circuit. This Portuguese national virtual football circuit kicked off on Friday, February 9, ditching its traditional model and embracing a new format.

Seventeen teams are competing in this year’s event that is promoted by the 1st professional football league and has a total prize pool of €50,000.

The 1st phase of the eLiga Portugal is currently underway at Benfica’s Presidential Tribune of the Estadio da Luz. Here, we have all the info you need to know about the eLiga Portugal 2023/2024, starting with the format.

eLiga Portugal 2024 Format

The organizers of the eLiga Portugal dropped the traditional league format, which had 18 teams last season, with a new one that features 17 teams. The teams were divided into three groups in a draw that took place on Monday, February 5, prior to kick off on Friday.

Below are the groups for the Championship:

  • Group 1: Estoril Praia 22 Esports, Geekcase Vizela, Moreirense FC, SC BRAGA / EGN ESPORTS, Casa Pia A.C, GD Chaves
  • Group 2: Boavista FC Esports, Portimonense SC, SL Benfica TP, Gil Vicente FC Apogee, eFCPorto Soccersoul, Vitória SC ISG
  • Group 3: FC Famalicão, Estrela Amadora, SC Farense, FC Arouca by Quest, Sporting CP DUX

With the format that the eLiga Portugal has adopted for the 2023-24 season, there will be three stages played in three different stadiums.

  • Phase 1 – Estádio da Luz (Benfica) February 9 to 11
  • Phase 2 – Estádio do Dragão (FC Porto) March 8 to 10
  • Phase 3 – Braga Municipal Stadium (SC Braga) April 12 to 14

Played from Friday to Sunday, the stages will have two days reserved for the group stage and one for the knockouts. The two best clubs and the two best third-placed teams from the three groups will then have a place in the stage’s playoffs that will be taking place at the end of each stage.

After the the end of the three competition phases, the eight best clubs will progress to the eLiga Portugal Finals, which will be played in Convento São Francisco in Coimbra.

As always, the esports version of the Liga Portugal ends with the Super Cup, which is played by the finalist clubs from eLiga and Cup competition. The Super Cup will take place on April 30th at the League Headquarters, in Porto.

The Prizes

As already mentioned, the prize money for the 2023-24 eLiga Portugal is a whopping $50,000. On top of that, the winner will be handed a direct ticket to the eChampions League as well as the EA FC Pro Championship playoffs, which would be a dream come true for any pro player
