In an exciting announcement during the PC Gaming Show, Warsaw-based developer Triple Espresso revealed their latest project, Copa City, set to revolutionize the football management genre.
Unlike traditional football sims like EA Sports FC or Football Manager, Copa City shifts the focus from managing teams to orchestrating entire football events, marking its debut as the first football tycoon game.
A New Take on Football Management
Copa City offers a unique twist on football management by putting players in charge of organizing high-stakes football events rather than managing individual teams.
The game challenges players to prepare cities for massive football spectacles, ensuring everything from stadium readiness to fan safety and satisfaction. This innovative approach aims to provide an immersive experience that captures the intricate logistics and emotional highs of football events.
Real Cities, Real Teams, Real Challenges
One of the standout features of Copa City is its use of real-world cities and football clubs. The first city revealed is Warsaw, Poland, with its iconic PGE Narodowy Stadium. Players will manage events in three distinct cities, each recognized by their famous landmarks, with the remaining two locations to be announced soon.
The game boasts an impressive lineup of six licensed football clubs, including Arsenal FC, FC Bayern München, and CR Flamengo. Each club brings its unique colors, chants, and fan behaviors, contributing to an authentic atmosphere.
However, managing these events won’t be a walk in the park; players must navigate the unique challenges and requirements of each club to ensure a successful event.
Gameplay Modes
Copa City offers three diverse gameplay modes tailored to different player preferences:
- Campaign Mode: Perfect for newcomers to tycoon games, this mode guides players through organizing events of increasing complexity, unlocking more challenging scenarios as they progress.
- Challenge Mode: Ideal for seasoned players, this mode offers specific scenarios to complete within an hour, testing players’ quick decision-making and problem-solving skills.
- Single Match Mode: Designed for experienced tycoon gamers, this mode allows players to set up a single match in any host city, choosing the competing teams and economic setup. Players can then showcase their final economic results on a leaderboard.
Despite thorough preparations, unexpected challenges are bound to arise. Players must stay vigilant and ready to react to any issues that may threaten the success of their event. Managing large crowds and ensuring safety while maintaining an enjoyable atmosphere will test the player’s strategic and adaptive skills.
When will the game be released?
Copa City is slated for a 2025 release and will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Football fans and tycoon game enthusiasts alike can look forward to this innovative blend of sports management and city-building, promising a fresh and engaging experience in the gaming world.
