Electronic Arts (EA) has announced an upcoming price increase for its EA Play subscription service, effective from May 10, 2024.
This decision impacts both the standard and Pro tiers of the service, which were originally launched in 2020 following the merger of EA Access and Origin Access. Here’s how the new packages will be priced:
- Standard Tier: Previously $4.99 / €4.99 / £3.99 monthly or $29.99 / €29.99 / £19.99 annually. Starting next month, it will be $5.99 / €5.99 / £5.99 monthly or $39.99 / €39.99 / £35.99 annually.
- Pro Tier: Previously $14.99 / €14.99 / £14.99 monthly or $99.99 / €99.99 / £89.99 annually. The new rates will be $16.99 / €16.99 / £16.99 monthly or $119.99 / €119.99 / £109.99 annually.
The standard tier includes access to the Game Pass Ultimate Subscription, and the Pro tier offers subscribers access to all games on their launch day. EA cites changes in currency value and alignment with market trends as the reasons for this increase. All current subscribers have been notified via email about the upcoming changes.

This trend of price increases is not unique to EA. Recently, Microsoft and Sony also raised their subscription fees for Xbox Game Pass, Xbox Ultimate, and PlayStation Plus memberships, respectively. Similarly, Netflix and Disney have significantly increased their subscription prices in 2023.
In a related note, the gaming community has been buzzing about the steep price drop of FC 24. Launched in September, the game is now available for just $10.50, down from its original price of $80—an 85% discount with five months to go before the release of FC 25. This unprecedented price reduction has sparked considerable debate, as no previous game in the series has seen such a drastic markdown.
