2K Have Reportedly Secured the FIFA Video Game License

After months of speculation, it appears that EA will face a new competitor in the football gaming market.

According to gaming media account MohPlay Inc, 2K Games has secured the license to create the next FIFA game. This new partnership allows the creator of the NBA 2K franchise to develop a new football game series under the FIFA branding.

The same source claims that the new football simulator is set to launch later this year and will be named FIFA 2K25. While the proposed timeframe may be questionable due to the development process of creating a game, a release date aligned with the 2026 FIFA World Cup tournament would be more realistic.

Currently, no details are available regarding competition licenses, except for the FIFA World Cup, which the world football organization holds full rights to.

This news comes just days after FIFA president Gianni Infantino confirmed that the organization was actively seeking the right partners to develop a new football game. Speaking at the 74th FIFA Congress in Bangkok, Infantino said, “We are developing new partners and a new game which, obviously as everything we do, will be the best. So get ready for the new FIFA game.”

Following the split between FIFA and EA in 2022, the football governing body was determined to continue the historic franchise and promised a new game that would rival everything currently on the market.

EA subsequently released a new franchise with EA SPORTS FC 24. However, with 2K Games entering the market, we might finally see a real competitor challenging EA’s monopoly.
