Football Manager 2025 is on the way, but things aren’t all going to plan behind the scenes. Sports Interactive (SI) have provided some key updates that FM fans will want to know about—both the good and the not-so-good. Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s happening with FM25:
Release Date Pushed Back
In a move that might disappoint eager fans, FM25’s release is being pushed from early November to late November. The shift is due to the complexity of moving the game to the Unity engine—a change that’s proving harder to nail down than expected. The devs are taking extra time to ensure the game is up to standard.
International Management Mode Scrapped for Now
One of the biggest shake-ups is the removal of international management as a playable mode in FM25 for PC, Console, and Touch. Based on data showing only a small percentage of players used this feature in FM24, SI decided to focus on areas more popular with fans.
For those who loved the international management feature, there’s good news: FM26 will bring it back, with improvements, just in time for the 48-team World Cup. If you’re a Mobile player, international management will still be available in FM25 Mobile, so you’re not totally out of luck.
Women’s Football and Changes to Player Profiles
One of the most anticipated aspects of FM25 is the inclusion of Women’s Football. As part of this, SI has decided to remove player weight as a visible stat across both men’s and women’s football in the game. The team found that women’s weight fluctuates far more regularly, making it an unreliable measure in gameplay.
FIFAe World Cup: FM Steps into Esports
Football Manager made a big leap into esports recently with the first-ever FIFAe World Cup of Football Manager, where players from across the globe battled it out in Liverpool. Indonesia’s Ichsan Rahmat Taufiq and Budi Muhamad Manar walked away as champions. Could this mean more FM esports in the future? SI is keeping the door open for more competitive events.
What’s Next?
The SI team is also ramping up for FM25 playtesting, but that, too, is slightly delayed due to the schedule shift. FMFC members who signed up will still get the opportunity to give feedback on the new UI and UX, but they’ll need to hang tight a little longer.
FM25 marks the start of a whole new era for Football Manager, but the road to launch hasn’t been smooth. With delays and content being cut, some fans might feel disappointed. But, with Women’s Football finally making its way into the game and a new engine powering the future of the series, there’s still plenty to be excited about.
